For truly, I say to you, if you have faith like a grain of mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there,' and it will move, and nothing will be impossible for you.”

I’ve been involved in fitness as an adult over the past 12 years. I’ve seen what works and tried what doesn’t. I got fit, I got fat, I got even fitter and now hold a NASM Personal Training Certificate. Discipline, Focus, and Time got me there.

Lost 90 lbs
I have tremendous gratitude for Sean’s work and encouragement in my life and have zero regrets to have invested in my health. My encouragement to anyone reading this that has become apathetic toward their fitness goals would be to invest the necessary resources to make it a priority in life. If you need help to kick start that, reach out to Sean. He will love you with honesty and patience, and also light a fire in you to see improvement. We need to surround ourselves with faithful friends and advocates like Sean O’Brien.

1 Timothy 4:8 states that physical training has some value, while spiritual training has the most value. This isn't an either/or situation. Paul encourages us to be disciplined in both, comparing spiritual strength to the physical strength of athletes.

Why do health and fitness matter?
Genesis 1:27-31 tells us that God created us in His image and declared it good. Our bodies are significant because we bear God's image. Jesus lived, died, and rose in His body, demonstrating its importance. John 20:27 highlights His bodily resurrection, emphasizing our responsibility to be good stewards of our bodies.

Why do our bodies matter?
Matthew 25:14-30, the Parable of the Talents, teaches us about stewardship. The master rewards servants who wisely invest his wealth and condemns the one who does not. This illustrates the importance of using and growing what God has given us.

What does it mean to be a good steward?
Be healthy and fit, practicing both spiritual discipline and physical effort. Emulate Christ by enduring hardship and practicing restraint, as advised in 1 Peter 2:20-21. Aspire to be upright, self-controlled, and disciplined, striving for virtues outlined in 1 Timothy 3. Be above reproach and avoid displaying sin to the world.

How should we live?
These ideas, while potentially seen as novel or controversial today, were familiar in Jesus' time. His followers, well-versed in the Old Testament, understood themes of heroism and valor, as seen in passages like Song of Solomon 5:7-8. When Paul advises to "put on the full armor of God," he likely did not mean it as a substitute for physical capability. Jesus came to perfect the law, not abolish it. Thus, the Armor of God complements both spiritual and physical capability. Christ enhances the physical body with spiritual discipline, rather than replacing the physical with the spiritual.
